The Confessions of a Serial Monogamist By C.B. Forde
I am a serial monogamist. I have tried to find the cure for my disease through therapy and yoga, advice from my married friends and I ve even tried to settle down it just hasn t worked out for me. I love Black women, they are the drug I can never give up. Some brothers complain that Black women can be difficult, materialistic, hard to approach, hard to please, etc. And although I don t disagree with them I still love my sisters, especially the ones with attitude. They are the ones that melt. My uncle once told me that a good woman never gives herself away.
With Obama s election victory the relationships between Black men and women has become a major point of focus for me. In the search for my own Michelle Obama, ve identified my patterns as a serial monogamist. My objective is to interject some new thoughts into the ethos of Black male and female relationships.

Black Nationalism Rocks the Nerves of Certain Black People By A. Peter Bailey
When reading the near maniacal reactions by commentators such as Juan Williams, Stanley Crouch and their equally terrified cohorts in journalistic, academic and cultural circles on even the slightest expression of Black Nationalism, I remember a column I wrote 22 years ago on the Need for Black Nationalism. Excerpts are as follows
If there is one thing that most whites, whether left, right or center, agree upon it is that any manifestation of nationalist sentiment by Black people is to be bitterly opposed. The unrelenting opposition of most Whites to Black Nationalism should signal to Black folks that it may very well be the key to our gaining control of our communities and its resources. Unfortunately, too many Black folks, especially those in positions of influence, refuse to even consider nationalism as a possible instrument for empowering our people. Read More... |

The Balancing Act By Nicole Murray
From the office, into your home, and through your personal life, stress remains ever present. It is the overwhelming feeling you just cannot do enough. It affects your day to day tolerance, your blood pressure, produces migraines and transforms into heart disease or other health related illnesses. Stress is the ceiling that descends more rapidly as the day goes on, but you don t have to play its victim any longer. Balance is the key to stabilizing your life and eliminating the daily hurdle of stress. Balance is what keeps the world rotating. Day and night, summer and winter, are all separate entities that co exist within the same cycle.
Work, home, family, and friends are also a part of that cycle. Just as the sun knows when to shine every morning and when to set we must dictate the pace of our own life and take control.
To some, it seems inevitable that work streams into home life, as if the only option is to work longer hours, night, or even weekend. We think and dream about work even when the clock has ticked well passed working hours. The working world is ever changing. Blackberries, I phones, international accounts, with completely different time zones, deadlines, and the list goes on. It can potentially make sense to work twice as hard to keep up with the evolution of the today s working world. Newer technology was designed to keep you subconsciously bound and hold you accountable at times when work should not be your priority.

It's Water By T. Bowen
The issue of tap water vs. bottled water and the over pour of plastic bottles filling up our nations landfills has always been a problem in our country. America s tap water supply has been mislabeled, so to speak, in order to heighten market sales for bottled water corporations who in the past decade have nearly quadrupled their profits.
The public does not receive the concurrent facts about the great advantages that tap water has over bottled. This undermined fear is in itself the cause for this widespread myth that bottled water will supply one with the nutrients that tap water no longer contains. In addition, many bottle water drinkers believe that the water put in their bottles is worry free from all unhealthy elements that make tap water look and taste the way it does. Studies have proven otherwise. Read More... |
