The Inaugral Parade Photo EssayI traveled to DC for the Inauguration of the 44th President because I missed the Million Man March. After seeing the joy and adulation expressed in Harlem after the election, I felt that there would be a mass exodus of Black people to DC from around the nation. I must say that I was correct. Yes there were people of all races, colors and creeds celebrating the Inauguration. But from what I experienced and saw, itwas a mass gathering of Negros from all corners of the country.

I meet people that drove from Florida, Houston, and Oklahoma. The most beautiful thing of all is that there was not one violent incident throughout the festivities.

I arrived at 10:00 am and did not get inside of the Security Zone of the Parade Route until 1:00 pm. It literally took us 3 hours to move 50 yards in 20 degree weather. I had fun in the crowd. We talked, sang and made jokes. The crowd was one. We were all full of hope and jubilation. It was cold, but the sea of bodies had a warmth that cannot be described. It was a good day. Everyone was polite and happy. It will be for history to tell if President Obama will become the great unifier; however, he is now the great inspiration to America and Black people in particular.
