The Democratic Party’s leadership, from Presidnet Obama down, can best be described as basically a crew of wimps who allow smack-talking Republicans to determine the discussion and set the political tone. A quintessential example of the genre is Representative Eric Cantor of Virginia who rants and raves and pontificates about the evil, ineffective and incompetent federal government, while at the same time sucking up every federal dollar he can get his sweaty hands on. Cantor, who has the look of having been a teacher’s pet when in high school, does all this while representing a congressional district and state that would most likely be an economic basket case without federal government presence. Both his district and the state of Virginia are literally flooded with numerous military bases, thousands upon thousands of federal government employees who live and pay taxes in the Commonwealth and most juicy of all, the humongous Pentagon. Yet this is a man who has insisted that any funds given to victims of Hurricane Irene must come from spending cuts in other federal programs. Of course, Cantor didn’t insist on this when his district needed federal funds after a nautral disaster. A less wimpy Democratic Party leadership would inform Cantor that they agree with him to some degree and will demonstrate their good faith by immediately shutting down all federally funded facilities and projects in his district and use the money saved for victims of Hurricane Irene. The same message should be sent to all of Cantor’s like-minded cohorts who share his beliefs about severely cutting federal funding to assist people in need and about the absolute incompetence of the federal government. A less wimpy Democratic Party leadership would also tell these same smack-talkers to not say another word and send out another letter denouncing the horrors of government-sponsored healthcare until “you and your family have cancelled the very lucrative government sponsored healthcare program that you benefit from as a member of Congress.” The same directive should be sent to Liz Cheney who, from her perch on Fox News Sunday, regularly attacks what she snidely calls “Obamacare” every chance she gets. She should be asked if her family has any plans to reimburse the federal government for the tons of taxpayers’ dollars that were spent on her father’s healthcare when he was Vice-President? These are just three examples of how a less wimpy, less cowardly, less punky Democratic Party leadership should respond to the profiling antics of Cantor and his snarling fellow Chihuahuas. It is easy to visualize them, in the holes where Republicans gather, contemptuously mocking the intimidated, uninspiring, listless, seemingly clueless Democratic Party leadership. That contempt is well deserved. |
